The Young Leadership Committee for Type 1 Diabetes in Victoria

YLC Vic

At the YLC we are the TYPE who are passionate about raising awareness and funds for JDRF to help their goal of improving lives and curing type 1 diabetes.

We are young professionals; lawyers, IT gurus, graphic designers, recruitment and communications specialists, scientists, economists and doctors… oh and did we mention we are all volunteers?

This is us!!!

This is us!!!

We officially launched in October 2013 with a super successful commemorative cocktail party at the very fancy Carlton Club on Bourke Street. Over 230 people attended (way more than we expected) and we raised a whopping $7,000 for JDRF.

So far this year we have:

  • taken a few friends (over 100!) to a monumental movie night

  • advocated on the impact the GP copayment would have on type 1 diabetics

  • attended the JDRF Gala Ball, and

  • launched our very own meetup for young adults in Melbourne with type 1 diabetes (see Type One Tastings if you have type 1 and want to meet us!)

We are very excited to have been invited to speak about type 1 diabetes at the City of Whitehorse Women’s Forum on 13 September and are putting together another blog post with all the details to be presented by Melissa Kelly and Karlie Belletty.

Our major Melbourne event for 2014 is a Halloween party at (the very spooky) La Di Da on Friday 31 October. We are planning to outdo our previous events and raise over $10,000 for a very worthy cause!

So that’s us… for now. In the near future we will be blogging about all things T1D, the events we are running and the awareness work we are doing... we may even venture into vlogging!

Be the TYPE!
